The Synagogue Memorial
You are probably wondering why the synagogue memorial is located in this non-descript place which, at first glance, has nothing to do with Jewish history. However, you are now at the former spiritual centre for followers of the Jewish faith in southern Germany – the old Schulhof which may be confusing to German speakers as it translates as ‘school yard’! However, in Yiddish, the word for synagogue is Schul so the Schulhof is in actual fact the synagogue courtyard.
